I’m mad. I’m sad. I’m deeply upset. She could’ve had it all. She could have proved herself as one of the greatest pop stars of her generation - instead, she’s made a complete joke out of her career.

Katy Perry, at this point in time, is a household name. There is absolutely no doubt that she is and will always be an iconic celebrity - for better or for worse. What makes her recent stunts more upsetting is how truly incredible her music used to be - from One of the Boys to the timeless Teenage Dream, even dare I say up to her 2020 project Smile, Katy has released numerous fantastic albums. She is capable of blending her personal songwriting, catchy melodies, and stunning physical artistry to all her projects. Which leads me to where we are now - what the FUCK HAPPENED????
The Lifetimes Tour is a joke. The whole 143 album sounds like ai-generated wanna-be club music that misses every single mark possible. So I find myself asking - what went wrong? How are the people on her team allowing her to flop THIS terribly? It’s hard to watch - as a 2000s baby who literally grew up on Katy’s music, it is hard not to root for her. Songs like “Part of Me,” “Waking Up in Vegas,” “The One That Got Away,” “Hot N Cold,” “I Kissed A Girl,” “Wide Awake,” and even “Never Really Over” will always be classics in my house. However, even as I acknowledge all of these outstanding songs, I can’t excuse her recent behavior and artistic choices - if you can even call it that.
Honestly - I think Katy’s renaissance should have been during her 2020 projects. From the beautifully produced and sung HIT “Never Really Over” to “Harley’s in Hawaii,” this era had the music to bring the masses back to Katy’s side. Now I’m not sure if it was her team’s doing or if the music just wasn’t appealing to radio, but I cannot figure out why these songs flopped (charts wise). And maybe, Katy feels the same way. Since this is when she released her last good music, it’s clear she was fresh outta good ideas after the release of Smile.
I’m not sure why any good music producer or PR professional would let her release 143. There is seriously not one good song on the whole album, and it really does pain me to say. One of the worst parts of this whole thing is that Katy was given a freaking LAYUP of a chance to redeem herself as the artist we know she can be; when “Thinking of You” went viral on Tik Tok earlier this month, my first thought was how this could actually help Katy’s situation. People were clearly drawn to her more original style of singing and appreciated her artistry. Instead of capitalizing on this and showcasing her more raw, powerful vocals (which are incredible), Katy literally stands there on stage and MOCKS the trend!!! Girl!!!! What are you doing??? You could’ve shown everyone that you still are that young girl with incredible vocals and powerful songs - now, you’ve shown everyone that you’d rather be a cheap sell out who makes bad music. Rest in sweetest peace to the Katy Perry I once knew and loved.
